Haiku Creativity with Emiko
On Saturday, May 22nd, from 1-4pm, in partnership with Haiku Canada and the McGill Centre for Continuing Education, the
Quebec Writers' Federation is offering a Haiku Creativity workshop with visiting Japanese poet Emiko Miyashita. While sipping
green tea and enjoying traditional Japanese sweets, you will learn about the world's shortest poem. Miyashita, who writes
in both Japanese and English, will give a brief introduction to the origins of the form, then guide you in writing your own
haiku. For writers in any genre, this three-line, Zen-inspired poem will sharpen your focus and prove that when it comes
to words, less is definitely more.
Miyashita was born in Fukushima, Japan and currently resides in Kawasaki. A graduate of Doshisha University in Kyoto,
she began writing haiku in 1993. She has given workshops at conferences in Canada, the U.K, the U.S. and India. An award
winning translator of 10 books, she has published two collections of her own haiku.
